Indigenous History

European Settlement

The Denmark River was named by Europeans after a surveyor, Thomas Watson, who named it after his friend, Dr. Alexander Denmark.

In 1829, the Swan River Colony was established, which eventually led to the colonization of Western Australia. Denmark was initially used as a stopping point for ships on their way to Albany. It wasn't until the 1870s that Denmark began to develop as a town.

Timber Industry
